Tandem Water Softening

With Rielli water softening units, the calcium and magnesium ions, known as lime among the people, imparting hardness to the water are picked up from the water and thus the water is softened. Under the current environmental conditions where water quality is getting worse every day, you may protect all your water installation against lime by using softened water and thus extend service life of your dishwashers and reduce power consumption for water heating considerably. Benefits from use of softened water are not limited to them; the laundry washed in soft water gets whiter and the colors more vivid. No lime stains appear on the dishes. Consumption of cleaning materials reduces considerably.

As to the industrial applications, use of water conditioned correctly will extend service life of your heating units, providing efficiency and quality improvement with respect to washing and dyeing operations.

Selection of Correct Equipment

Water softening units operate by a process different than filtration. Basic principle of the softening process is ion exchange. Essential ions imparting hardness to the water are Ca and MG ions. For ion-exchange process, sodium-based cationic (acidic) resin is used. During service, the resin collects on it Ca and Mg ions having +2 value in the water. At time of regeneration, Na ion is given to the unit. As Na ion can be reinforced by NaCI component in the easiest and cost-effective way, saline water is used for this purpose. While the resin retains Na ion, it releases Ca and Mg ions. Ions imparting hardness to the water are thus drained. Thus the unit becomes ready for the following service upon regeneration of the resin.

As it may be understood, the most important parameters affecting efficiency of the equipment are quantity of resin and chemical formula of the resin. Surface speed remains as secondary parameter.
Operating Way of the Softening Units

Duplex water softening units are used for recovery of continuous soft water or reduction of initial investment costs of the system. In the system, when one of the bodies is in service, the other completes regeneration, waiting for the body in service to enter into regeneration in ready state. When the body in service enters into regeneration, the backup body enters into service. Unlike the single system, in the duplex system, resin less than the quantity required in the single system is used and two smaller tanks, instead of a single big one, is used and valf to control the system can be selected cost-effectively, thus providing optimization in the duplex systems.
Filter Bodies

Filter bodies are of fiberglass having special mixture. They are tested under 16 bars. Operating pressure is 10 bars.

Control Mechanism

Full-automatic valves are used on the equipment. Surface of the valves which is in contact with water is brass and other parts are plastic. The softening units enter into regeneration under time control or flow rate control. Maximum service temperature at which the valves may be used is 50oC. Operating pressures of the valves are 1.8 – 8.8 bars. Next to each unit, there is polyethylene salt tank in volume compliant with capacity. We have also models designed by use of aquamatic valves.
